DENTAL EDUCATION & OUTREACH PROGRAM

The purpose of the Dental Education and Outreach Program (DEOP) of Cal PDS is to teach the youth throughout the community about dental and oral health. We believe that early dental health awareness is integral to sustained health living. Our program typically consists of presentations by Cal PDS members in underserved elementary school classrooms that underscore the importance of preventative care through interactive activities. Our presentations, which are approximately 20 minutes, are composed of skits, songs, demonstrations, and segment on nutrition as well. We also provide free of charge "care packages" containing a toothbrush, a mini-tube of toothpaste, and floss for students to take home.

Why Dental Education is Important

Helping children to develop healthy habits for oral hygiene is important as these habits can set a strong foundation for the development of robust oral health throughout their lives. DEOP aims to educate children about oral hygiene in a fun and interactive way that facilitates absorption and long term understanding. Our educational resources are highly effective on younger communities because we can introduce healthy habits that allow individuals to eventually avoid common problems associated with poor oral health.

If you want to join us to help volunteer at one of our teach-ins, please watch the attached YouTube video and fill out the mini-quiz about the video. This is super important because this is the content we will be presenting in the classrooms! Thanks
